What is collagen?

Our desire to be beautiful!

We all need to feel beautiful. Actually it’s our right! But we might have different approaches on how to get to our desired beauty. I’m not going to judge different point-of-views, but I think I may have a suggestion that can play its role as a skeleton key to open the beauty doors!

In general, we need something to make us look younger, to give us a good skin, healthy nails and hair. We seek something to help us be in excellent shape and even make us smarter; also something that can improve our strength.

A viable answer to our questions is COLLAGEN. I assume that lots of you have heard about collagen and its amazing benefits for the body. But now, let’s take a closer look at what collagen is and how it can help us be healthier individuals.

Different types of collagen

Collagen is a protein substance that acts like a glue. It sticks different parts of the body together as an integrated slice. The word “kolla” means “glue” in Greek. That’s actually why it is called collagen.

There are at least 16 different types of collagen in our body, each with a different responsibility.  The five common types are:

Type I: a key component of the organic part of the bone which forms skin, tendon, vasculature, organs, bone

Type II: cartilage is mainly made up of collagen

Type III: a close friend to type I (because they’re usually are found together) that forms reticulate

Type IV: the epithelium-secreted layer of the basement membrane

Type V: the type that gets involved in forming cell surfaces, hair, and placenta

How can collagen help you?

As you see, our body can produce collagen by itself. However, as we age, the ability of our body to produce collagen diminishes drastically. So we should definitely consume nutrients containing collagen. We can eat foods that contain collagen or take it in the form of a supplement. Just make sure your body gets enough of it.

You will see the results in a healthier, acne-free, more hydrated skin as well as stronger joints and bones, powerful muscle mass, strong heart, flourishing hair and nails and so on. It also impacts the brain health quality.
